On RBC Plaza
Developers today broke ground -- and revealed the name of -- what will be downtown's
tallest building: RBC Plaza.
Raleigh developers Highwoods Properties
and Dominion Partners and tenant RBC Centura Bank held a ceremony at
10 a.m. to celebrate the start of construction on the 33-story tower
at the corner of Fayetteville and Martin streets.
It will be the headquarters for the U.S.
subsidiary of Royal Bank of Canada when finished in 2008. READ

City Council Green-lights
RBC Headquarters Design
The Raleigh City Council on Tuesday approved the design for RBC Centura's
long-awaited downtown headquarters.
The decision comes less than a week after
the Raleigh Planning Commission accepted the bank's plan.
The 538-foot, 32-story tower will rise from
a 0.83-acre lot on the south side of E. Martin Street between Fayetteville

Downtown Tower Raleigh's Skyline Will
Look Dramatically Different In 2008.
RBC Centura officials announced Tuesday
that the bank will build a 29-story, $100 million skyscraper in downtown
Raleigh to house its headquarters. The building will be located at

RBC Centura's new corporate headquarters, a $100 million project slated
to be completed by 2008, will be a 29-story precast and glass structure
from the drawing boards of Atlanta-based architectural firm Cooper Carry.

and overcoat buttoned against the cold Tuesday morning, stood smiling
in the crowd of onlookers as RBC Centura CEO Scott Custer announced
